PROJECTED WINNER

Diamond Staton-Williams - Harrisburg Town Council

As a nurse, wife, and mother it is important to be involved in the community to create a better future for our children.  This commitment to the future involves serving the people of Harrisburg.  My decision to run for Harrisburg Town Council comes from a deep sense of responsibility to see our community's small business' grow, creation of appropriate infrastructure to support our growth, and opportunities for our families to flourish in a sustainable model.

As a nurse, I feel my training and experience, provide a different perspective or fresh look at the challenges or issues our community faces.  I believe this perspective can help our area grow while still maintaining the quality of life in our town.

We also have the unique ability to work together on our shared values of helping others by building our local economy through partnerships with local business owners and our schools.  Let's strengthen our local economy by revitalizing Town Center, creating spaces to allow for easy access and recreation, and support our youth through focused and fulfilling activities.

The responsibility for sustaining our community is ultimately up to all of us and our work together.  We want Harrisburg to continue to be a great place to raise a family, to live, and to work!

PROJECTED WINNER

Dianne Berry - Kannapolis City Council

Dianne Berry has served as Clerk to the Board for the Cabarrus County Public Health Authority Board of Commissioners since 1999.  Prior to that she served as Clerk to the Board for the Kannapolis City Schools Board of Education.  As a Certified Municipal Clerk and North Carolina Certified Municipal Clerk, she says, “I wanted to put my knowledge and experience to good use in Municipal Government.  I am the only female on the current Council and the only female running in the 2017 election.  I believe I bring a perspective to the Council that is needed, and will continue to be important for many reasons.”

At Cabarrus Health Alliance, she also serves as a Human Resources Program Manager, and as Club Administrator and Club Director with Kannapolis Rotary Club, and was recently appointed to the Cabarrus County Jury Commission.

Dianne says, “I am running, primarily, because I love Kannapolis.  This has always been my home. My parents and grandparents worked their entire lives in Cannon Mills.  I ran for municipal office in 2013 because I felt I had a lot of education and experience to offer the citizens of Kannapolis.  And because members of the Cabarrus County Democratic Party got me interested in running for office and 'lit that fire in me to become a public servant', something that I will forever be grateful for.

And it was and continues to be my desire to make a difference.  Through my involvement as a City Council member and my work in Public Health, I am well aware of the needs of our citizens and the needs of our city.  Through Cabarrus Health Alliance's recent Community Needs Assessment, I have seen what deficits we have in our community and the areas where improvements must be made.  And many of those needs are already starting to be addressed through collaborative efforts. We have a very strong and 100% dedicated City Council and it's been an honor and pleasure to work with each of them.  We are also very fortunate to have highly knowledgeable and effective city leadership.  What happens during the next four years is going to affect us all for many years to come.

I am seeking re-election for a 2nd term of office on November 7, and my hope is for the citizens of Kannapolis to continue to support me and all current City Council Members, in our continuing efforts to make Kannapolis great again, for the benefit of all of our citizens.”
